5 Children's Shows Set For This Summer At Ocean City Music Pier

Professional casts directed and choreographed by Shannon Agnew will present a wide range of shows at the Ocean City Music Pier as part of the Greater Ocean City Theatre Company’s 2019 Children’s Series.

It begins with “Schoolhouse Rock Live!” on July 2 and 5, 10:30 a.m. The pop culture phenomenon and Emmy Award-winning 1970s Saturday morning cartoon series that taught history, grammar, math and more through clever, tuneful songs is not only making a small-screen comeback, but it’s also lighting up stages everywhere.

“Schoolhouse Rock Live!” follows Tom, a nerve-wracked school teacher who is nervous about his first day of teaching. He tries to relax by watching TV, when various characters representing facets of his personality emerge from the set and show him how to win his students over with imagination and music, through such songs as “Just a Bill,” “Lolly, Lolly, Lolly” and “Conjunction Junction.”

Gerald and Piggie leap off the pages of Mo Willems’ award-winning, best-selling children’s books in “Elephant and Piggie’s ‘We Are In A Play,'” on July 9.

See what happens when a girl loses her favorite stuffed bunny in the adventure, song, and dancing laundry-filled musical based on the beloved Caldecott Honor-winning picture book, “Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Musical” on July 16.

Stellaluna the bat, Verdi the snake, and Pinduli the hyena face being bullied by a nasty lion and share stories about building self-confidence in “Stellaluna and Other Tales,” based on Janell Cannon’s books, on July 23.

The Children’s Theatre Series will conclude with “How I Became A Pirate” on July 30A band of comical pirates enlist young Jeremy Jacob to find the perfect spot to bury their treasure. Jeremy finds that adventuring can be lots of fun, but also learns that love and home are treasures you can’t find on any map.
