The Ocean City Beach Patrol will host its Women’s Invitational lifeguard competition at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, with a rain date of July 21.

The annual event features the top female athletes from southern New Jersey beach patrols competing in swimming, running, and paddle boarding races.

Traditionally held at 34th Street Beach, the Invitational moves this year to the beach at 12th Street to allow spectators from the downtown sections of the beach and Boardwalk to see the competition.

Events include:

  • Box Swim Relay: Two swimmers from each patrol will complete a 250-meter box-shaped course.
  • Box Paddle Relay: Two paddlers from each patrol will complete a 250-meter box-shaped course.
  • Run-Swim Relay: Each patrol will have two competitors. The first will run approximately one-half mile on the beach and tag a swimmer, who will complete an out-and-back course.
  • Surf Dash Relay: Each patrol will have four competitors in a relay race through the shallow surf to a marker and back to the beach.

Scoring: Five teams in each event will score – 1st place (5 points), 2nd place (4 points), 3rd place (3 points), 4th place (2 points), 5th place (1 point).
