Annual Juried Photography Show Returns To Ocean City Arts Center

By Veronica Flesher, Patch Staff

Throughout the month of April, get away from those April showers and visit the Gallery at the Ocean City Arts Center as they present their “Annual Juried Photography Show.”

The show opens April 1 and runs through April 27, with a “Meet the Artists” reception on April 14 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

More than 125 works were submitted by photographers from Cape May, Cumberland, and Atlantic and Gloucester counties as well as from various other counties in Central Jersey and as far away as Pennsylvania.

The exhibit features more than 40 works varying from landscapes, wildlife, architecture, and of course, people, the Arts Center said.

The judges looked at the form and feel of the image, the techniques that were used, the presentation and the composition. Technical considerations, composition, lighting and impact are key considerations, according to OCAC.

However, even more importantly, they examined how a photograph makes one feel. A good image will also convey a mood that helps viewers find a meaning in what the photographer is trying to say. It is the emotional impact that can evoke strong feelings in a viewer, according to OCAC, and they say this show will engage viewers with beauty and emotions.

Last year’s Best in Show was won by Rich Gess for his photograph, “Ocean City’s Great Egret.”

The Ocean City Arts Center is located on the second floor in the Ocean City Community Center at 1735 Simpson Avenue, Ocean City, New Jersey 08226.
