“Girls Weekend” Means Fun Getaway in Ocean City

“Girls Weekend” Means Fun Getaway in Ocean City

By MADDY VITALE

Hey, ladies, get ready for some fun in Ocean City. In just a few weeks, the resort will be dedicated to women when Girls Weekend kicks off the start to the shopping, dining and exciting spring season.

That means discounts on merchandise downtown and even a fashion show to start the weekend of March 24-26 off right.

The Downtown Merchants Association will host its sixth annual Girls Weekend beginning Friday, March 24, with a fashion show at the Ocean City Yacht Club at 7 p.m.

To add to the excitement, Miss New Jersey Augostina Mallous will be the emcee. Light fare and refreshments will be provided for guests to enjoy as they watch models strut the runway showcasing the newest spring and summer fashions from downtown businesses.

“Girls Weekend begins Friday night with a fabulous fashion show at the OCYC representing our retail stores downtown,” said Michele Gillian, executive director of the Ocean City Regional Chamber of Commerce. “Saturday and Sunday are full of demonstrations and great specials that everyone can enjoy.”

Over the years, the event has truly become a staple for women to enjoy, as well as a great boost for the local businesses at the start of the busy season, Gillian noted.

“This event has grown over the years and really highlights the restaurants, hotels, and accommodations as well as our downtown shopping district,” she said. “What a great way to kick off the spring.”

March 25 and March 26 will offer a wide array of classes, demonstrations, and workshops scheduled throughout the downtown for people to enjoy.

There will be a host of ways to participate in everything from wellness activities, crafts, and much more, according to the Chamber.

In addition to special sales and discounts, downtown businesses will offer exciting giveaways.

The weekend is packed with fun and exciting activities for girls of all ages, Gillian said.

“It’s also wonderful to see all the different business sectors working together to promote the weekend and Ocean City,” she emphasized. “We look forward to another successful Girls Weekend in Ocean City.”

Anyone wishing to attend for the weekend is urged to book their rooms soon. Local hotels, B&Bs, and motels are offering Girls Weekend packages, Gillian said.

Each year, the Chamber and the Downtown Merchants Association join the event, along with the city, to provide a special weekend for women.

Mayor Jay Gillian said Girls Weekend has really taken off and become a favorite event for women.

“This has been one of those great events where women get together to enjoy Ocean City and the dining and attractions and places to stay,” the mayor noted. “It has become a tradition for a lot of women. It is one of those events where the Downtown Merchants Association, the Chamber, and the city really work great together.”

He added that it is a special weekend.

“It’s just a cool event. It brings families to Ocean City, mothers and daughters and aunts, and grandmothers, for a fun time,” he said. “The local businesses are so great with it.”

Tickets are $35 a person. For more information visit oceancityvacation.com or go to the event’s Facebook page.
