One of the top things to do in Ocean City during the fall is compete in the half marathon. It’s not just us saying that – the OCNJ Half Marathon was recently voted the best in New Jersey.

A recently released poll by had runners voting for their favorite half marathons in each state. New Jersey’s is the OCNJ Half Marathon, according to the nationwide runners’ guide website.

“Three hundred and sixty five days a year, we study half marathons,” the publication wrote. “While we wish we could run every single half marathon, it’s simply impossible to run every one in the United States. That’s why we launched this vote – The Best Half Marathons in the United States – to get feedback from millions of runners on the favorite races they’ve ever run.”

“In September, after peak season has ended, the city throws a half marathon which showcases the sandy beaches and gorgeous coastlines that make OCNJ such a popular spot for vacationers,” the publication wrote of the OCNJ Half Marathon. “With a flat course that includes stints on the famed boardwalk, the race is great for beginners or those looking for a PR.”

The OCNJ Half Marathon also has developed a reputation as a friendly race – with the public encouraged to come out to cheer for runners and volunteer groups manning themed water stations, according to the city. The Princeton Half Marathon was chosen as runner-up.

“The Half Marathon has become a great fall tradition in Ocean City,” Mayor Jay Gillian said. “The runners and their families get to enjoy Ocean City at its best, and the race grows bigger and better every year.”
