Falling on the last Monday of May each year, Memorial Day honors those who lost their lives while serving in the military. It’s a federal holiday that many people get off from work, resulting in a three-day weekend.
This year, Memorial Day falls on May 27, and for many, this holiday weekend marks the unofficial start of summer. We’ve rounded up some things to do Memorial Day Weekend in and around Ocean City. Please note: We recommend calling ahead to confirm the hours and access before you head out the door.
Unlocking Of The Ocean And Business Persons Plunge
When: Friday, May 24 – 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Where: Moorlyn Terrace St. Beach, Ocean City, NJ 08226
What: Kick off Memorial Day weekend at the Unlocking of the Ocean and Business Persons Plunge. Participants, dressed in business attire and carrying briefcases, will march into the Atlantic Ocean to the sounds of “Pomp and Circumstance,” symbolizing its opening for the summer season.
Memorial Beach Challenge
When: Saturday, May 25, 2024 – Events start at 7:35 a.m.
Where: Ocean City Music Pier, 825 Boardwalk, Ocean City, NJ 08226
What: Dive into the 2024 Memorial Beach Challenge on Ocean City’s beautiful beachfront. The day will begin with a wreath-laying ceremony and national anthem, followed by obstacle course races and a special fun run for kids. Proceeds benefit 31Heroes, supporting service members and veterans.
Tim Dillon’s American Royalty Tour
When: Saturday, May 25 – 7:00 p.m.
Where: Ovation Hall, Ocean Casino Resort, 500 Boardwalk, Atlantic City, NJ 08401
What: A short drive away in Atlantic City, join comedian Tim Dillon for a night of sharp wit and satire. Known for his biting commentary and appearances on platforms like Netflix and Comedy Central, Dillon’s American Royalty Tour will stop in the Garden State this Memorial Day weekend.
Ocean City Memorial Day Service
When: Monday, May 27 – 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Where: Veteran’s Memorial Park, between 5th Street and 6th Street on Wesley Avenue, Ocean City, NJ 08226
What: Attend the Memorial Day Service at Veteran’s Memorial Park, which will honor those who have given their lives in service to our country. Join community leaders and local residents in paying tribute at this hour-long ceremony.
National Moment Of Remembrance On The Boardwalk
When: Monday, May 27 – 3:00 p.m.
Where: Ocean City Boardwalk, Ocean City, NJ 08226
What: Join fellow Americans on the Ocean City Boardwalk for the National Moment of Remembrance at 3:00 p.m. on Memorial Day. This moment of national solidarity calls for a one-minute pause to honor and remember those who have sacrificed their lives for our country.
