Santa Claus will ride atop a fire engine through Ocean City on Friday. The fire engine will depart from the Ocean City Fire Department station on Asbury Ave. at 3 p.m. The route will end along downtown Asbury Ave. around 5 p.m.
Ocean City released an interactive map of the planned route. The route can be tracked in real-time with the Ocean City Vacation app.
Ocean City officials canceled other holiday events, including the Christmas Parade, First Night, and First Day celebrations, due to local and national increases in coronavirus cases.
“We will continue with events where capacity can be controlled and social distancing maintained,” said Mayor Jay Gillian in his weekly address on Oct. 30.
Santa’s arrival in downtown Ocean City will conclude the “Miracle on Asbury Avenue” celebration that includes shopping specials from 2 to 5 p.m. and free horse-and-carriage rides from noon to 3 p.m.
Members of the same household can board the carriage rides on the grounds of the Ocean City Tabernacle at Sixth St. and Asbury Ave. The tree at City Hall will be illuminated at 5 p.m.
